Teens on the Fringe

Teens on the Fringe will be featuring performances by spoken word artists from Youth City Network, dancers and choreographers from City in Motion's Children’s Dance Theater & Apprentice Company. We will also be featuring short films from the Blue Valley Schools’ Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) program and Reel Spirit Young Filmmakers.

Saturday, July 23rd from 6pm - 11pm at the Kansas City Public Library: Plaza Branch, Truman Forum. Free for performers, free for the audience.

The night will begin with free workshops open to all area teens. There will be a stage combat workshop by the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, a spoken word workshop taught by local poet Unique and a workshop on the trend of upcycling hosted by local artist and designer Apryl McAnerney. We'll finish the evening with an improv workshop with KC Improv.

Next you'll be entertained while finding your seats by Kansas City Young Audiences', "Garage Band."

8pm is when the performances begin. Teens on the Fringe will feature spoken word poets from Youth City Network and dancers and choreographers from City in Motion's Children’s Dance Theater & Apprentice Company among many others. Again this year, there will be short films from the Blue Valley Schools’ Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) program. New this year is a fashion component which will feature outfits styled by teens from clothing purchased from Goodwill!

But that's not all! There will be teasers of 2016 Fringe Festival shows that feature teen talent including again this year a piece from "Words + Music Showcase" which is a collaborative project of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, The Coterie Theatre’s Young Playwright’s Roundtable and UMKC’s Composition Department, Academy and Composers in the Schools program.

Last but certainly not least on display for the month of July will be artwork from the teen artists at My Arts.

Come and support the next generation of Fringe performers by joining us for a few hours of spoken word, music, singing, dancing, film, and anything else we can think up!

Reaching The Write Minds - Teen Playwriting Workshop

Saturday July 30th - 10AM

The Coterie, 1st floor of Crown Center, 2450 Grand Boulevard
