Sun of the Revolution

Storm The Hip Hop MC

Show Information:

This play explores the generational gap between today’s style of hip hop in comparisons to the Golden Era. When a young man disturbs an older gentleman’s peace on a train ride, a battle of will and wit ensues. Can the wild stallion be tamed? Can you teach an old dog new tricks? Who wins? There are no losers in the game of respect. Winning is all a matter of perception.

What a gem of a show. Great script with credible dialogue. Fascinating balance between the two characters, and–for a script-in-hand reading–both performers were polished and committed to the story. It felt like I was eavesdropping on an unfolding battle of wits on a city bus or light rail–a confrontation compelling enough that I might miss my stop. I’m glad I found this play, on a whim really. The show I caught was underattended, but the actors were still giving the quality crowd their A game. If you want to see an interesting (albeit brief, with about a 37 minute run time) exchange involving contemporary music at the core, please consider catching this diamond in the rough.
