A wonderful story of Americana. I really enjoyed the songs.

Not deterred by the thunderstorm, we drove to Holy Cow to catch the 11pm Dust Bowl: American Stories performance by Grant Maloy Smith. We arrived to discover that Fringe attendees had fled for home, the garage of Holy Cow was flooded and they were discussing canceling the show.

Grant Maloy Smith chose to perform for us, an audience of three. It was amazing! He gave a stellar performance about the Dust Bowl during a rainstorm! We felt honored that he gave us a private concert. Thank you!

We loved this show, and the venue. It is small and personal. Grant, who features in the show, spoke to us beforehand and is a really nice guy. The story and songs concern the dustbowl of the 1930’s, plus other songs about the Great Plains. Grant has a really good voice, he plays the guitar with a taped backing band. There is some very neat video and photos, accompanying the music. This is really worth a visit. Great job Grant and the Holy Cow venue.

Venue is hard to find in a somewhat grim neighborhood but once inside I felt like Dorothy stepping into the Land of Oz. A fasinating space crammed with collectibles, vinyl records, zines, and more eye catching stuff than I could absorb. If only they had an air conditioner!

Loads of fans blow the warm air around and you forget about that when the stunning performance of Grant Maloy Smith transports you to the desperate days of the Dust Bowl.

His original lyrics are heart wrenching, his guitar playing flawless, and his vocals clear and impressive. On the wall behind him rolls a video blending historical photographs with modern views of the great plains. Yes, he made the video, too.

Like so much Oklahoma topsoil, this show will blow you away

One of the best performances this year! Every part was amazing – the story, the visuals, the music. Everyone in the audience was swaying and clapping – totally engaged. This is a must-not-miss event!

Loved this show! Wrote a separate review under Reviews.

Hope he wins Best of Holy Cow, so you can catch this on Sunday.

    Great music and storytelling.

Great show! Grant is a treasure . It’s amazing that he is from Rhode Island and does such a wonderful job capturing the Great Plains during the 30’s. Don’t miss this show!

In a world full of musical imposters, Grant is the real deal. Extremely proud to know this great artist and fellow Rhode Islander.
