Show Information:
We are storytellers, but we are also activists. We filter and magnify and distort the society we live in to entertain, but also to force it to look at itself, and to push it forward. Onstage and off. We will not quietly accept the status quo. Those that do will be left behind. Militant Showgirls features a rotating cast of burlesque, cabaret, aerial, and sideshow artists engaging themes of resistance and empowerment in four unique shows. Our revolution has dancing!

An excellent show. Even if you are a misogynistic pig you’ll be entertained.
A very entertaining burlesque and variety show. Well done ladies. Try and catch this show before it’s gone.
A burlesque show with a “women’s empowerment” message. Multi-racial performers spanning in age from 20s/30s to 40s/50s, which was great to see. Multimedia projections on rear screen with great feminist quotes. A variety of music accompanied each performer, sometimes a little “angry, hard metal-ish” to something more playful and light. Note: The performance I attended ran around 35 minutes unlike the other hour-long shows I’ve attended. Not an issue, but thought I’d mention it in case it would change your “Fringe performance itinerary”. 🙂
In general, the individual performances were ok, not great. The highlight for me was that it was thought provoking. (me: 120lbs with body image insecurities) Watching many of the overweight or very overweight performers made me uncomfortable, forcing me to reflect on our society where waif-like women are thought to be the ideal.
I applaud every one of them for their self-acceptance and for “strutting [all] their stuff”. Sexy and confident comes in all sizes and ages, and I bet this performance will remind me of that far into the future.
