My White Son

Lewis J. Morrow / Tenured Son Theatre

Show Information:

Rashaad and Andy saw separate but meteoric rises to the top. Rashaad – a young, black Oscar winning actor and Andy – a critically acclaimed comic, also share a sudden descent into Hollywood shame. Personal missteps have left them blacklisted and now they’re reduced to taking the only job they’ve been offered in the past two years – an improbable father/son duo on the cheesy sitcom My White Son; where off-screen they argue about who has been unjustly punished by the Hollywood the most.

Funny as hell! I loved the script and energy of the actors. This show also leaves you asking questions concerning race and the industry we love so much. I’d see it again. Well done!

Enjoyed this show! I thought it would be a fun, silly show for Fringe, but it surprised me with a depth I had not anticipated. I would definitely recommend it.

I rate this play a three out of ten. It is a comedy without much of a message. Hard to follow the point of the show.

This by far was my favorite Fringe show and I attended about 20 different productions. This is also the only show i attended twice. The first night it was incredible but the second night this cast was rolling on all cylinders. Again, i come to leave a review and the comment right before me is left by a gentleman who i’m assuming is a kc critic. Here’s my issue – if you don’t think the show is funny fine. If you don’t think its good – that’s fine. BUT to say it didn’t have much of a message or it was hard to follow the point of the show means either you stay for the full show, you’re a troll or you’re an idiot. The message was that hollywood has barriers, double standards and biases which are related to race and gender. But it was done very very well. This show also included the most diverse audience of any show i attended. And after the show the person running the venue had to beg everyone to leave or atleast move because everyone was outside talking about this show and waiting to talk to the actors including the lead actor who I believe also wrote the play. I waited for about 15 minutes and watched him shake hands and hug everyone who attended and there was nothing but praised heaped upon this cast and show. I am terribly sorry i couldn’t leave a review until now. I don’t know what impact it might have had but this show was GREAT. My only critique would be there were small differences between the first and second show that I saw leaving me to believe the show was still in its experimentation phase or the actors weren’t 100% with their lines. Again, something i noticed since i went to two shows. The best aspect of this show is without a doubt the arc it takes from going from some type of parody sitcom to a full blown heart to heart between its two leads. Wow. Great writing and such a wonderful concept.
