Pre-rational Painting

Artist: Martin Pope
Description:
Up until the moment that the brush touches the canvas, I have no idea where it is going. I don’t try to make the painting any particular thing. While I am sure that my work is informed by artistic principles, I am not consciously applying any. I simply keep painting until it means something to me; until it lights up something in my brain. I think of it like a non verbal journal entry, recording my state of being on that particular day. It's messy, deeply personal, and untouched by language.
