Description:
Born Greg is about stand-comedian Max Kaczor whose legal name was, for a mere 24 hours, “Greg.” Max takes a look at what his life has become, and imagines what it could've been if he were Greg instead. Through a story that weaves between his childhood antics, odd family quirks, and dramatic life experiences, Max brings the audience on a journey of what it means to be Born Greg.

“Greg” is a one of a kind comic. Very understated (and sometimes a little too quiet, we missed some of the lines of comedy), he has a likable persona, and some original material. We thought he could have dug a little deeper into the ‘what-if-my-parents-kept-Greg’ theme, it was a minor part of the act.
Max is very funny and has a lot of good stories. The small audience made his job more difficult, but he perservered. If you need a laugh, go see this show.
Max forgot his pants. Don’t worry, he was wearing shorts, but he really would have rather been in pants. Max’s delivery was subtle, but personal. A trait that allowed a smaller audience to feel more connected to the artist. Max was asking what his life would have been like had he been able to live as a Greg. But the more Max revealed about himself through clever set ups and punch lines, the harder it became to rationalize the overall theme of the stand-up set. To me, it appears that Max has already lived an incredibly interesting and versatile life, regardless of some moments being classified as failures or mistakes. The artist didn’t ever make a strong case for the thesis beyond the initial set up of the show either. I wasn’t too hung up on that since I enjoyed his set regardless. After a short bit on accepting life as a tall guy, Max asked if anyone in the audience was over 6’4”. An audience member disclosed that he was, in fact, a tall guy too. And his name? Greg. Sometimes Fringe magic strikes without really even trying.
I appreciated the vulnerability interspersed with the jokes – the thru-line of Max’s growth as a person while connecting with his Greg alter-ego was really lovely. Max easily made connections with the audience, which made for a fun, comfortable environment. Some great jokes, many self-deprecating ones.
Max was fantastic! Very open and relatable on many points. Some jokes hit the “Max” which would not work with the name “Greg,” so resolved: Max is best. Embrace you. You are fabulous!
