Description:

Living black in Kansas City is something, especially when it comes to family. Mitchell Kray Francis was murdered by a cop which leads to a sit down between his mother, Diane and Officer Joseph. Hearing the most personal conversation between the two, there comes a point in time when tragedy like this is expressed not just from BLM supporters, or the black community...but from a mother.
This play covers trigger warning towards gun violence and its impact that damages the people close to you.

Paulette Dawn’s perfect is worth the ticket price alone. She takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions through this play. This show has an important message to tell. Great job cast and crew

Very impactful, relevant show – quite a debut for Terrace Wyatt, Jr.. Valuable message for all Kansas Citians – play emphasizes our racial issues and threats. Dynamic performances.

I was not ready. Very well done. Gut wrenching & powerful performance. If you only see one Fringe show this year, it should be this one.

What a fantabulous show. Powerful. Moving. Poignant. Well written and performed beautifully. Not only one of the top shows I seen so far this season but I think everyone in Kansas City should see this show. I highly recommend not missing Black Man, Missouri.

My boyfriend and I come from St. Louis each year for KC Fringe and make it a point to see and support Black shows. It is with that objective that we came across Black Man, Missouri. In an attempt to leave an unbiased, fair and hopefully meaningful review, I will simply say this play needs a lot of work. There are several plot holes and twists and turns that take away from whatever the main point may be. We dig so deep into the cops’ past and own trauma, he’s given such a big platform to state his case, he continues to say things such as “i’m going to make sure your son gets justice”. Did I miss something? I don’t want to spoil anything for people who come to these reviews to make choices on what to see. Do go and see this. The subject matter is relevant. Perhaps I’m missing something but I think this play is all over the place and while there may be something there, it needs a lot of work.

Very impactful show. Tough to watch at times but has important things to say. I think in its longer 2-act form it would be more effective since it touches on so many social issues; it needs more time to really explore the issues presented. Staging was very creative, especially the sound effects. Great debut of a young playwright and director!

Everyone needs to see this. The message, the delivery, and the execution were beyond moving, powerful, and brilliant. Thank you, Terrace, for bringing this phenomenal show to life.

Outstanding script and brilliant performances. The simple set added to the gut-wrenching performance. Kudos to all of the performers. The dialogue sparks conversations that we all need to talk about.

This show weaves a very beautiful and horrible theatrical web. This show will hurt you, and it should. It’s powerful and well-done on many levels, and important work for KC to witness. Don’t miss this one.

This show is a raw, heartfelt, powerful narrative carried by two STUNNING lead performances by Paulette Dawn and Michael Webber. They gave me chills, brought me to tears and had me on the edge of my seat over the course of single hour—what a triumph!

  13. Danielle Anderson on July 27, 2024 at 12:21 am

A truly powerful show! Excellent acting and strong story telling with a flow that moved in and out of heavy and lighter moments to bring intensity, sorrow, grief and anger to perfect heart wrenching boil. The set design and backing cast highlighted each moment and the two leads were so strong. Moved to tears and then some. Thank you for this excellent piece!

  14. Jeffrey Smith on July 28, 2024 at 10:16 pm

Powerful and creatively presented. Solid performances from all involved. My only complaint…I wish there could have been sound amplification. A lot of the subtle quiet dialogue was lost to me in such a large space.

  15. David Bis on July 28, 2024 at 11:24 pm

This show engages in a dialogue that is emotional, moving, and painful but real. The entire cast delivers it with such intensity and precision that it leaves a lasting impression to help carry the conversation beyond the theater. This is a powerful piece and is deserving of praise for the message and hard work from the cast and crew.
