Longfellow’s Guardian Angel - New Digital Pathways
Reviewed By Taylor Hudson
“Longfellow’s Guardian Angel” , a new play written by Dennis Dey, follows Alfred Wexler on his troubled journey to a very important meeting with his publisher. He is intercepted by a long-winded stranger who promises to help him reach his destination – but there may be a few educational and existential pit stops along the way. Kevan Myers and Dennis Dey are both veterans of the KC Theatre scene and their command of the stage is impressive. Despite rather stationary stage direction, Myers’ and Dey’s chemistry and commitment kept the audience in their grip. Dey is particularly captivating as the wayward vagabond, playfully breaking the fourth wall, adding to his character’s strange omniscience.
A beautiful recitation of Longfellow’s “The Wreck of the Hesperus” is worth the price of admission alone, but this play has much more to offer. Don’t miss your chance to see “Longfellow’s Guardian Angel” at The Arts Asylum.
