This Podcast Is… Uncalled For - Mike Czerniewski

The podcast has been around since the early 2000s and has quickly become a part of popular culture with bitesize chunks of information on just about any topic easily accessible to anyone around the world. “This Podcast Is… Uncalled For” co-hosted by Mike Czerniewski and Heather Marie is an interview-based podcast with a variety of guest and a new guest every show for a total of 5 episodes produced throughout Fringe. This review covers the team’s interview of Brian Boye, Swaggy B if ya nasty, a local independent filmmaker and commercial producer.

Brian Boye is quite the storyteller about his formative years from high school through today. From being hungover during his first wedding anniversary to telling us why teenagers are the worst, his energetic dynamism had the audience like putty is his hands. His narrative included themes of familial acceptance, toxic masculinity, the intersection of religion and the queer community, and doing “the right thing.” His message was truly inspiring to anyone in the middle of their life hoping to make an impact but uncertain of their success.

The co-hosts Mike Czerniewski and Heather Marie, however, were outshined by their guest. Heather, being soft-spoken and often facing towards the guest instead of the audience, made her difficult to understand, especially for those of us with hearing loss. This was most likely due to the difference between how podcast episodes are typically produced versus how they are presented for Fringe. As cohost, Mike did not present with the same energy, audience captivation, and magnetism as his guest.

Overall, “This Podcast Is… Uncalled For” was an enjoyable experience with a dynamic guest. Although small, the audience was receptive and appreciated their time spent with the team. Every show has a different guest, so go experience the presentation and find out what story will be told next.
