Description:
After nomadically touring the world for the last 10 years, Renowned Australian comedic storyteller, Jon Bennett (Fire in the Meth Lab) finally has a home: The US of A.
Or does he?
COVID forced him back to his childhood home in the outback of Australia with his conservative, religious family for the next year and a half.
After jumping through every hoop imaginable, Jon was finally able to leave Australia and come to the USA. Only to be arrested at the airport upon landing. This is THAT story.

Jon Bennett’s Fire in the Meth Lab was probably my favorite show at KC Fringe 2022, and his new show, Ameri-CAN’T, is on track to be my favorite at KC Fringe 2023. (It’s still early in the festival, so I can’t fully commit to a favorite yet!)
Hysterically funny, poignant at times, and — most importantly for a good story — engaging as eff, this is definitely one that I think most Fringe audiences will get a lot out of. I’m not generally a fan of spoken word or stand-up, so a performance that uses elements of both wouldn’t normally be on my radar, but Bennett is just so talented and the show is so good!
Loved the show as he described his life during the pandemic lock down both here and his home country. He has his family mentioned in his act again, a now bride, a girl from FL I believe. Also he introduced a little of his Pretending Things are a Cock which was great since I couldn’t make the one and done show. He is a wonderful entertainer.
I can’t even begin to describe the charisma that flows out of Jon Bennett, but if you haven’t seen one of his shows before you must absolutely RUSH to this one! You’ll see why he’s such a stand-out performer and gets such rave reviews. I am particularly fond of comedic shows that have multiple/complex call-backs, and Jon is masterful in the craft. This is one of his newest creations and thus will continue to develop over time (like, at least if his disclaimer at the top of the show is accurate, he’s literally adjusting daily)- I might just see it again on its last day to see what he’s revised in the meantime! Great work!!!
Crowd favorite Jon Bennett is one of the best pros in the world of Fringe Fests (250+ in the world, 30 or so in USA). He’s a master storyteller injecting humor into interesting topics. I’m glad he liked KC to return a second time this year. Very much hope he returns for next year’s 20th Anniversary.
Sooo many great stories that I’d LOVE to share one or two right now, but you gotta hear them with his pacing (and heart).
Come see a world traveler share insights about life, love, family, travel, America. His entertaining manner and this thoughtful show would help some of the divides in this country. His show will give you hope that you, we, Ameri-CAN do it.
With so many interesting shows this and every year (for 19 years!), you’ll wish you had come out Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday last weekend. Jon has two more shows this weekend. Do not miss this show (or saying hi to Jon at the Fringe After Parties).
Amazing… Again!!
This one man show will make you laugh for sure. He has a unique story that you don’t want to miss!
