    Poignant, well thought-out and wonderful. There are many hilarious as well as thought-provoking moments in this show. I also applaud Nathan for pushing the envelope with some of the topics expressed in it. Definitely recommended.

    Nathan made me feel feelings. I laughed lots and had to really think about how I manage my own shame.

    Nathan’s show is funny, sincere, and raw. There were parts of the show that choked me up, then sent me into laughing the next minute. Nathan has such a relatable story that you feel connected to him and others in the audience. Wholeheartedly recommend!

    Hilarious, brave, and painfully honest in a way that makes you want more! I walked out of this show examining moments from my own life in a new light. Nathan Thomas is a force to be reckoned with who leaves his heart on the stage. A mix between clever wordplay, and dramatic storytelling that examines the weight of past experience that we all carry with us – this one is well worth your time!

    Nathan has an interesting story to tell, but his narrative got tiresome after a while. I felt as if I was his therapist instead of an audience member. He is holding on to too much resentment.

    Nathan is a powerful storyteller who brings his one-of-a-kind thinking, his challenging upbringing and his precise and brainy humor together effortlessly to create an entertaining and elucidating show.

    This show was one of the hardest pills for me to swallow at Fringe this year, truly heartbreaking, and probably the funniest, not in spite of the hardship, but bolstered by it.

    If you’re looking for a fresh adventure unlike anything else, this is the show to catch.

      Nathan leaves it all on the stage, examining some of the most unforgettable moments of his life, both the good and the bad. You will walk away with some life lessons, and of course plenty of laughs!

    I could listen to this guy talk for hours. I really identified with the back half of his set. It was a wonderful story from his childhood that was funny and poignant. I also loved the harrowing Alaskan fishing story.

    If Garrison Keillor ever dared to delve into truly heart-wrenching matters, he’d still fall short of Nathan’s incredible performance. Delivered with true thoughtfulness, this show yields an audience rapt to Nathan’s soft, heavy stories before quenching all sadness with laughter-filled hope.

    * Rating – 3.5 out of 5

    * 1-sentence review – Nathan Thomas melds together comedy and drama to hammer his tragedies right in front of you, creating the chance he’s never been given.

    * 3-sentence review –You leave this show feeling like you’ve watched a therapy session with a mid-30s Hagrid from Harry Potter. This introspective, thoughtful, intense, and mystic style of comedy is for an audience looking to help see the absurd in the form of laughs, heavy silence, and think about life’s bigger picture. A rare breed of comedian graces this stage, hoping him and audiences heal through good, bad, and ugly reveals of his personal life.

    Funny vs. Painful – but do the two have to be mutually exclusive? Nathan Thomas’ ‘Never Stood a Chance’ takes the time to reconstruct the way many of us deal with the darkest parts of life in real time. Hard truths and philosophy of Nathan’s life are revealed throughout the show while masterfully mixing in his incredible brand of stand-up comedy. The show made me think about myself and my relationships more than I knew I needed to, but Nathan’s perfectly placed injections of humor and perspective on hard situations reassured me that I’m working in the right direction. The writing is profound and the show itself is highly recommendable, but the performer (Nathan Thomas) is what makes this show a can’t miss for anyone who has the chance to. Easily my favorite Fringe show to date.
