Been Finn
Phil Kinen’s Big Show Productions
Show Information:
Once again, from the outrageous mind of Phil Kinen, who paired Huck Finn with Peter Pan in last year’s Fringe hit Never Ever After, comes another unconventional Huck Finn tale. Been Finn is the story of a middle-aged Huck Finn meeting for the first time his 20-year old bastard son, Benjamin Franklin Adams. In their banter of blood lines, imagined friends, lost youth, and kite flying; the estranged pair unearth the ills and inherit sins of their heritage. Father and son desperately seek absolution and reconciliation by the discovery of the one compelling aspect they both mysteriously mirror. Jake Leet, who portrayed the 14-year old Huck in last year’s Never Ever After, portrays Ben and Greg Butell portrays the 52-year old Huck Finn. Phil Kinen is the writer and director. Lea Williams is the designer of the steampunk era costumes along with the assistance of Celine Collins and Monkey Wrench clothing in Westport.
Been Finn is the third installment of a four play cycle, entitled The Huck Eternal Cycle, which is themed around the eternal youthful of Huckleberry Finn. The first play, Never Ever After, finds a 14-year old Huck meeting Peter Pan who imparts the gift of the Eternal Youth to Huck. The second play follows a 28-year old Huck and the third, Been Finn, finds Huck at the age of 52. The final play is a 72-year old Huck Finn reflecting on the gifts and curses of the Eternal Youth with his old play, Tom Sawyer. Continuation of the Huck Eternal Cycle was supported in part by the Johnson County Public Library.
