Wonderful show! Danielle has us laughing, singing along, and reflecting on our internal struggles as she masterfully strums that ukulele and guitar. Your Fringe experience won’t be complete until you visit this Garage Sale!

    • Shawn on July 27, 2024 at 6:33 pm

Not one to postpone bodily functions, I found myself fixated on wit, charm, and catchy tunes unfolding before my eyes and ears forgoing basic bodily needs. Only after Jer receded behind the curtain for the final time did my immediate need surface again. I hastily made way to the facilities where I could reflect on my fresh experience. Safe in my stall I heard the hum of the turtle song ring from the adjoining stall. It was at this moment I realized I had just witnessed greatness.

  9. Carrie Blubaugh on July 21, 2024 at 12:27 pm

Ohmygoodness, I couldn’t love this show anymore than I do.
Danielle Ate the Sandwich creates a perfect blend of comedy and heartfelt poignancy that provides a wholehearted, and full body laughter, experience. The attention to the smallest details throughout the show which makes it look seamless and effortless is hella impressive. Danielle writes lovely melodies with perfect lyrics that are delivered with a beautifully sublime voice and perfect comedic timing.
If you do anything for Fringe, and as Jer reminds us, You Can Do Anything, go see this show!!

Danielle’s performance shines so brightly through the guises of the four fantastic characters she portrays in this show. Each character brings a unique personality to the stage that you cannot help but enjoy being in their company as they share their sincere, sweet, and humorous perspectives on the treasures they find at the garage sale in addition to the equally entertaining musical numbers.

    • Dean Hatton on July 22, 2024 at 12:43 am

A very talented actress who gives each character their own personality and energy.
      Very well written.

Danielle was phenomenal! A bare bones stage with duel mics, ukulele and acoustic guitar for live music played by delightfully hilarious characters with soul and depth. All fun and games to take a turn and hit home with a heartwarming ode to all our inner child. This is a DONT MISS Show. 🐢

Loved this show so much! Am a big fan of Danielle’s music but this exploration of characters and storytelling is so much fun! Definitely a highlight of Fringe!

  15. Jamie Campbell on July 22, 2024 at 12:46 pm

This show is everything I want out of a solo Fringe show. Each of the characters are hilarious, but are layered with enough vulnerability to make us connect to them on a human level. The songs are catchy, fun, and poignant without ever being pretentious. Danielle has created something special here – a show filled with childlike wonder. She also sprinkles in the perfect amount of dark truth that makes the audience feel seen in their own humanity.

When I went to the show, several audience members were coming back for a second time because they loved the way Danielle’s performance made them feel. Put this one on your must see list. You’ll be glad you did.

This show was so thoughtfully executed and such a delight! I loved the combination of video and live performance as we were introduced to each character and then the item they select at the garage sale comes to life as the character comes onstage. Each character is so unique and different – it was fun getting to know each of them and I loved all the songs! I was so impressed with the quick changes Danielle did! Such a great show – don’t miss a chance to see this!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  28. John Holloway on July 24, 2024 at 10:54 am

The hardest decision you will face after this performance is deciding which character you loved the most. This is an incredibly crafted show. Four characters each have their own music, their own voices, and their own journeys and yet the whole thing comes together as one cohesive whole. I cannot recommend this comically genius and touchingly bittersweet show enough. All the stars!

  29. Laura J on July 24, 2024 at 1:42 pm

This is a delightful show that will take you on a musical comedy journey you don’t want to miss! I loved the characters and songs, and especially when everyone sang along!! Super fun and well done!

  30. MIchael Johnson on July 24, 2024 at 2:41 pm

The integration of video and live performance was good for providing some entertainment between character changes. The garage sale theme was well done. The first character was the best, the others seemed to need additional fleshing out, or just didn’t quite work right as presented. A few of Danielle’s songs were memorable. I won’t be forgetting ‘T-U-R-T-L-E’ anytime soon.

  31. Randi Struxness on July 24, 2024 at 2:53 pm

What a brilliant and dazzling star is Danielle! Her one-woman show is seamless: a vibrant fabric of adroit live performance threaded with pops of filmed genius, clever characters, and charming melodies. A cracking good show! 🤣🥳💗🎶

  32. Annie on July 24, 2024 at 10:52 pm

Danielle is a joy! Her characters will tickle your funny bone & tug at your heartstrings. Her comedic magnetism in this brilliantly executed has the whole pinging with positive energy. This show is a delight!

  33. Kim Stone on July 25, 2024 at 3:18 pm

This show was a pure DELIGHT, fully realized in concept and beautifully detailed drawn characters.
Was I expecting this show to pull at my heartstrings? I did not. Did it? Why yes, yes it did and then some. Coupled with some truly delightful video interstitials/character intros, Danielle created some truly glorious, varied, and vivid three-dimensional characters that were easy to get lost in. I found myself clutching my heart, sitting on the edge of my seat, and laughing myself into stitches on more than one occasion and I CERTAINLY wanted to more.
If you find yourself at The Bird Theatre during Fringe, DO NOT MISS this show!

    • Sally Anderson on July 26, 2024 at 10:36 am

Danielle’s show with her amazing characters had me laughing so hard my face hurt but also very touching parts that made you want to hug the characters. The flow from the garage sale video to the characters coming on stage with their items was a display of timing and creativity. With each character, they brought to life so much for everyone to relate to, whether it was humor for us all to escape our problems, remembering past experiences that brought us joy, sadness, encouragement to overcome whatever has happened, and the catchy music songs were an added bonus! There was great audience interaction and that’s always a plus. Congrats to Danielle for her talent in writing this script for 4 different characters, writing their songs, and then acting out their parts! A 5 star rating isn’t enough. It was incredible!

Danielle Anderson was amazing and showed off her many talents for this show. Such creativity first with the video of garage sales shopping and then coming out in person to delight us with her songs and antics while sharing so many aspects of life in the process. I’m so very happy I was able to attend and encourage everyone that has a chance to still make an effort to see this wonderful act. Outstanding performance!

  41. Erin J McGrane on July 26, 2024 at 3:13 pm

    Five Stars!
I can’t recommend this show highly enough. I belly laughed, guffawed, snickered, and felt all the feels. It’s touching, funny, insightful, and thoroughly relatable. Her characters are vivid and gently poke fun at ourselves. All four characters are distinct and memorable. Anderson accompanies herself on ukulele and guitar, and even in her character voices, her lovely singing voice shines through. I can’t wait to see more from this new comedy talent. I even went back for seconds!

    P.S. Jer, I love you!

  42. Hannah May on July 26, 2024 at 4:42 pm

Danielle CARRIES this one-person show so perfectly, the technical aspects are TIGHT and perfectly incorporated, the songs are so fun and catchy, and Danielle’s range illustrated through these very different characters is so impressive—everything about this show is impressive, do not miss it!

  44. Rachel Fair on July 27, 2024 at 9:31 am

Danielle may be performing her first Fringe, but you would never tell — this show runs like a years-long set that’s been smoothed to perfection over time. The video portions were flawless, each character is strong and perfection in their own right, and Danielle’s vocal range will leave you breathless. There’s a reason everyone is seeing is more than once, and it’s because you can’t get the songs out of your head! Drop the album soon, please!

    A MUST see Show!
The Greatest Garage Sale EVER is a collection of all the things we hang on to and can spend a life time trying to let go.
    The show is brilliant.
We start off being introduced to 4 characters on screen as they shop at The Greatest Garage Sale EVER!
Each character is cleverly introduced by the item they choose to purchase which is representing their inner turmoil. We meet each character before they appear on stage.
What the audience learns from these lovable characters is they have been:
holding onto the past, hiding from the past, reinventing themselves, standing up for themselves, fighting the power of the hold of Proper Lady vs Lusting Lady and navigating childhood pain.
In my opinion RUN do not walk to The Greatest Garage Sale EVER!
You will laugh, sing, chant, cry, roll your eyes with your eyeballs and possibly loudly shout from the 6th row your lustful support of Mary Ellen Dawson Carter Armstrong’s desires.
    DATS Fans ForEVER!!!

This is a very cute one-woman show in which she plays 4 different characters, all with interesting comments about life. She is a talented guitar and ukelele player and singer. Lots of fun!

Absolutely blown away by this show. The concept, the characters, the attention. to detail, and the blend of humor and humanness, all of it, incredible. The range of Danielle’s artistic talent shined bright throughout and the magic of her performance radiated through the crowd. The audience couldn’t help but tap toes, clap hands, and sing along. ALL THE STARS!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  49. OJV on July 27, 2024 at 3:29 pm

Entirely engaging, the characters Danielle brings with her are full realized, endearing, and highly memorable. The garage sale video is a clever bit of stagecraft that loosely ties the characters together and allows Mary Ellen, Brintley, Beanie, and Jer onto the stage seamlessly. Add in catchy songs (T-U-R T-L-E, T-U-R T-L-E!) and ready audience participation and this show is a winner.

  50. Mike Kelly on July 27, 2024 at 3:59 pm

Danielle puts on such a creative and entertaining show with a variety of visuals, comedy, introspection, country, suburbia, melody, shopping, sing-along, manners, drama, and life lessons all wrapped up in a one person show! And boy, what a bunch of interesting and funny characters Danielle can be! I involuntarily spit my drink from Mary Ellen’s first words and was worried about returning to my cup for the rest of the show!

Each of the character’s interaction with the audience was unique and the transitions were cleverly designed and executed. Overall, the show was such a fun and meaningful experience that you couldn’t help but learn from Danielle’s example that you can do anything!

  51. Nathan Kilen on July 27, 2024 at 4:12 pm

I’m not capable of articulating how much I enjoyed this show. I was rooting for all the characters, who were very well-thought-out. The tunes were crisp and melodic. T U R – T L E is a serious earworm (it won’t leave my brain). Danielle is a wonderful performer who delivers authentic joy to the audience. Danielle is an excellent musician with a wonderful voice. A true craftsperson who delivered a triumphant work of art. Thank you.

  53. Jessie Turner on July 28, 2024 at 7:44 pm

Danielle helps you feel welcome into her show, like an old friend to her characters, not just someone there to spectate. I am always bedazzled by Danielle, but today I listened as she/they/old friends spoke and sang to me about their lives, feelings, perspectives and welcomed my own. The talent you hold and express is incredible. Thank you for sharing your craft and so much vulnerability with us!

  54. Jennifer Baird on July 28, 2024 at 9:18 pm

This show is pure joy! Danielle creates these wonderful dynamic characters that are hilarious and full of heart.
Her transition to each character is beautifully done with ease. Danielle is a bright shining star and I am so happy we get to have her in Kansas City.

  55. Morgan Fender on July 30, 2024 at 3:57 pm

Danielle Anderson and her original characters are multitalented in the most obvious and subtle ways. The production showcased the randomness and happenstance of bringing together the human experience as people cross paths at a garage sale, but the sensational performance was anything but accidental. Danielle was intune with the audience from second she conceptualized this show and her meticulously curated experience captivated the standing-room only crowd. There was not a single moment that didn’t contribute to the storytelling and progression of each character. High-quality humorous video packages were woven into the show to serve as introductions to each character. While the character shops for items, we learn about their likes and dislikes, their personality quirks, and their opinions on various clothing items–sans dialogue but bursting with entertainment regardless. From here, we already know exactly who each character is; eliminating the need for too much backstory and exposition that often distracts from the momentum in this style of show. Brilliant touches of physicality and costuming provided such unique character definition that it was hard to believe at times that this was a one-person show. Ever cheery manners expert Mary Ellen Dawson Carter Armstrong burns her smile into your soul and prays for it while she’s at it. Brintley Owen Brantley, a death obsessed cowboy with Mary Poppins pockets deeper than his friendships, plays a country song you didn’t know you were missing. The unsatisfied, cascading force of nature that is Beanie Galavant knows what she wants and knows how to get it. In the final act, we meet Jer, a golden-hearted children’s music performer who beautifully and dutifully brings it all together. As the entire audience sang out “”T-U-R-T-L-E!”” I couldn’t help but feel like I was part of a collective that for a brief moment in time was just enjoying something simple and good, together. Comedy and music seamlessly merge together as each character presents genius original songs that will live rent free in your head until Brintley Owen Brantley is adding you to the list of his friends who have passed on. This 60-minute show was crammed and jammed with humor and heart. Some moments were for the pure joy of exaggeration, some moments were for the rich connection of a shared human experience. As a midwesterner raised on a budget, I’ve been to countless garage sales in my life. I think I can safely say this was The Greatest Garage Sale Ever! (Even better than one where I got my brand new white converse high tops for $5 and that’s saying a lot.)
