Harry Houdini spent his life conquering fear. On the 100th anniversary of his death, longtime collaborators Bryce Kuhlman (Magic Castle, Atlantic City) and C. K. Carey (two-time Best of Fringe winner) celebrate his legacy the wrong way—by irresponsibly playing with everything that terrified them as children.
Forget the "Great Beyond"; this show returns to the suburban basement. A highly interactive mix of psychological magic and Gen-X urban myths, the performance tests the "lethal" combination of razor blades and candy, hunts for "Satanic Panic" in the kitchen, and summons a ghost with a room full of strangers.
But the show looks deeper than the monsters under the bed. It explores how the low-grade panic of the '80s—fueled by playground rumors and "Stranger Danger"—has evolved into the modern anxieties of adulthood. For Kuhlman and Carey, resurrecting the Satanic Panic is a way to examine the thin line between childhood superstition and the very real weight of mortality.
As veteran magicians and lifelong friends, the duo uses their shared history to shift the performance from sugar-fueled chaos to a poignant exploration of death, friendship, and the legacies we leave behind. Armed with a Ouija board, a stack of records, and a disturbing amount of Halloween candy, they invite the audience into a nostalgic descent of "bad advice" and experiments that should have stayed buried.
Confronting the myths of their youth, Kuhlman and Carey find a way to navigate the uncertainties of the present. It is a celebration of the things that make the skin crawl—and the magic of surviving them together.
Some of the best story telling and magic around these parts. Their performance was riveting and tricks really draw you in. I would highly recommend you to see them while you can!
I really enjoyed this show! Such a fun concept. The mix of nostalgia, magic, and audience interaction made it a really unique experience. If you have a chance to see it, I definitely recommend it.
These two childhood friends have a chemistry that is undeniable. Not sure which one is more believable. Unexplainable demonstrations of the mind that leave you wanting more.
Definitely keeps you entertained. The storyline is so original, quirky, and fun!
The magicians worked great together. Kept me entertained the entire show. Their humorous banter and crazy good tricks made for never a dull moment. Don’t miss this!!!
