I was delighted to see that Cirque Du Fils was returning to KC Fringe this year as it was my favorite show from last year’s festival. Jason DeGraff of Los Angeles is a master of comedy and clown and a must-see, even if you’ve seen his little circus before. In each show an ornery gorilla gets loose and must be wrangled and coaxed into performing his juggling act by the frustrated ringleader. However, every performance is different due to several improvisational sections and audience interactions. If you are someone who likes to be involved, this is the show for you; Jason utilizes several audience volunteers to play out the many bits that make this circus delightful, hilarious, and heartwarming. His opening performance coincided with the final match of the World Cup, which led to a smaller crowd but lots of material for jokes. Despite the empty chairs, his energy was as high as when I saw his sold out show last year, and the laughter was just as continuous. Do not miss Cirque du Fils. Jason (and his gorilla) deserve a packed house and you deserve the joy this show brings.
