“Nice to Meet You!” brings the real love story of Lu and Sweetums through monologued conversation full of cute quips. The show explored the complicated online dating world of today and finding love after loss. While not quite a play and more of a duo stand-up set, the show was quite an endearing true story. The design of the show was to be looking in on a first date, utilizing a projection to set scenes of their story, including real places and photos as well as online profiles and silly transitional images. Although partially meant to be replicating conversations, it turned into longer monologues back and forth, which at times could be quite long, however with small interjections from the other person.
As the show and their love story progressed, it became more of an inner dialogue utilizing the same interjections as before. Some of the transitional blackouts and transitions could be confusing as they took time to reset or move around, but that also gave the audience time to process some of the stories. The show felt like looking through a window at a first date and by the end, the couple gave the audience a parasocial relationship through all you knew about them. While directed at a more mature audience, the love between Lu and Sweetums translated into a charming story with plenty of humor.
