Telling Audrey
Reviewed by Patricia Berning

“Telling Audrey” by Ghost Theatre at the City Stage at Union Station was a dramatic and sometimes humorous look at a pretty dysfunctional family. The four characters’ personalities were clear from the start and created a tension that was palpable. The dialogue included a lot of very relatable moments no matter what family you are from. I laughed at times, was on the edge of my seat at times, and even gasped a few times. In particular Diane, played by Meredith Lindsey came on strong and was instantly difficult. Her strong personality cowed her husband Sam, played by Jeremy Walter and created a dynamic that was unhealthy for all of them. Audrey, played by Courtney Klein clearly favored her father over her mother, and kind of went off the deep end once she heard what her parents had to tell her. I won’t give the secret away, but Audrey’s distress once hearing it and her ultimate reaction kind of made me want to go kick her in the shins by the end. I ultimately liked this show because even though it depicted a very unhappy family dynamic, it was well written and the actors were spot on in their portrayal of a difficult situation.  Good job to everyone at Ghost Theatre for creating a thought-provoking and emotional show.
