This show hilariously captures relatable family tensions and changing dynamics through the perspective of the “Christ’s”. The small but mighty cast did an incredible job, a few shoutouts:

Emily Walton as Mother Mary: BRAVO. 👏 so many funny moments, absolutely captivating – perfectly cast for this role and loved your portrayal of Mary.

Christopher Martin: great writing and taking chances with religious humor without being black/white about a complicated topic. Had a good balance of poking fun and trying to point to a meaningful message.

Grace Enochs as Mary M.: I think you have one of the hardest roles in the show to carry the message in a much more grounded role and push the story for some of the other characters. I just really enjoyed your performance!

Mason Dredge as Joseph: loved the delivery of funny one liners and the “YEAH!!” during one of the big scenes got me. Great dynamic with Mary too.

Brett Custer: I genuinely believed the positive vibes you brought to the stage and were great contrast to Jerry (in a not annoying “better than you” way?). It’s not easy to portray Jesus Christ and there’s a sense believable humanity with this performance.

Steven Miles: the humor is in the details with this show and I have to give credit to the director for taking risks and finding opportunities within moments to make it even funnier while also having the message be even more relatable. The miracle scene and finale really stand out in this regard.

This is a satirical piece that recognizes that there may have been some humanity in the Family of the Christs (Joseph, Mary, Jesus, and Jerry). This script strips away some of the divine perfection that gets draped upon the holy family and recognizes that they have wants and needs and flaws because they are people. If Jesus is God made Man, then it can be expected that Jesus must navigate the conundrum of human imperfection and family awkwardness, and this is a silly journey at times.

But let’s be clear that this piece never dismisses or degrades what seem to be sacred themes from the stories of Love between peoples and the importance of the Joy of creation; instead this piece pokes fun at what this might mean as the family of the Christs appreciate these ideas while dealing with the struggle of being human.

The nature of this script is then wonderfully captured by good performances by a tightly coordinated cast. This is a playful work that is well worth your time. There’s one day left of the Fringe, and if you haven’t seen it yet and can approach the content with an open mind, it is well worth taking the road to Whim Space and enjoying a top-notch ensemble performance.

The show was cast perfectly—everybody fit their role seamlessly and the chemistry on stage flowed effortlessly. Amazing actors. The range of low to high brow religion jokes were immensely funny and kept things modern, intriguing, and playful. Great writing and great cast.

Jerry Christ, the person, is a man struggling to figure out his path and maybe feeling a little overshadowed by his up-and-coming brother Jesus. Jerry Christ, the show, explores themes of patriarchy and who writes history in hilarious and thought-provoking ways. We loved it and laughed throughout!
