During the 2026 KC Fringe Festival, Ryan Hruza and his merry band of improvisers and musicians will be writing, rehearsing and developing a brand new Musical with YOU, the audience!! Each show, we will work with you to develop themes, characters, narrative structure and of course, musical numbers during the first 4 performances with the final show being a staged reading of what we create! I got to see the final product of Ryan and company’s collaborative process over Fringe. I truly applaud these performers for taking on this bold task of creating a musical over about a week- and then performing it! The cast was full of beautiful vocal talent as well. Lots of great comedy and lots of heart. And I got to help name the show! Kudos!

Five stars for the unique concept and risk-taking. I saw the Friday show, which started with a song, centered on a collaboration about characters and stories between cast and crowd, and wrapped with a medley of WIP songs by Director Ryan Hruza. The cast—a mix of improvisers and musical theater folks—shows 100% trust in the director, each other, and the audience as they throw out ideas for the first act of their brand new musical. Their banter is adorable and the investment audience members are making in the story is so engaging. Can’t wait to see the show that results tomorrow night!
A very interesting and ambitious concept for a show! The audience loved the opportunity to give ideas and talk through bits with the cast. Seeing the creative process of Ryan and his crew was very illuminating!
As a last-minute addition to the Fringe lineup, Let’s Make A Musical is a truly ambitious piece of performance art and adds the audience as just as much a valuable cast member as the musicians and writers on stage. The artists are tasked with taking the ideas for characters, plot lines, and story arcs from the audience and alchemy-like turning them into a full fledge musical over the course of their run. I went for night two and saw their opening number and inciting plot, then spent the rest of the hour working together with the cast and folks in the seats around me to help decide what should happen next. I have never felt so immediately invested in a stage performance, I will definitely be attending the next show just to see what happens next.
