“Should I know who Sweetums & Lu are? That’s all.” Meryl Streep
Nice to Meet You was one of my favorite experiences at this year’s Fringe. It’s an honest story about how two people found each other in middle age. I attended the show with my wife, whom I also met in middle age, and we saw a lot of our own story mirrored in Sweetums & Lu’s tale.
The production was intimate and straight-forward, which is all we needed because the story was enough. Sweetums & Lu were charming and the show felt like we were hanging out with old friends over a drink, hearing the tale of how they fell in love. It’s a great story with plenty of hilarious and heartwarming details. Well done!
Through a clever mix of skit and direct-to-crowd-storytelling, Sweetums and Lu will charm you as they regale you with the tale of how they met and came to be as a couple. Funny, sweet, and hopeful.
The show went long and it also felt like the story could’ve been more interesting at 30 minutes maximum. It was a cute love story that talked through the first date and then engagement story for two older people. It had some laughs and some cute moments that made me drop a tear, but it went over by 5 minutes at least and felt drawn out.
Forget Odyssey, It’s Nice to Meet You is the can’t miss hit of the summer season. Be sure to come Saturday for the final performance if you haven’t seen this amazing extravaganza yet
Sweetums and Lu are both hilarious and raw. They tell the great story of pre meeting each other to marriage. Some deep moments and lots of laughs. Definitely worth your time to go see this fun show!
