Who Am I, Again? – One Man’s journey to discover identity after trauma. A verbal collage of stories about surviving Traumatic Brain Injury from multiple perspectives – survivors, friends, family. Told by Brain Injury survivor and master storyteller Lethan Candlish, this piece explores a common journey of surviving trauma, navigating loneliness, and finding strength in community.
Lethan Candlish has put together a touching menagerie of stories about brain injury, with his own experience as the centerpiece.
Lethan does a great job of embodying the multiple characters we meet along the way. With unflinching honesty, he shares the experiences of others who have suffered brain injuries, and even those whose lives were directly affected by his accident. The show manages to be heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time, which is something Lethan navigates by laying the truth out bare, allowing the audience to process it without ever telling us how to feel.
Lethan is so good at storytelling and his story of living with brain injury is especially compelling. The show is well laid out and he moves easily between the characters so the audience always knows who is speaking. Lethan’s story is informative and hopeful. You won’t regret seeing it!
I am a survivor of TBI, I went through a year of rehab for the broken pathways in my brain though luckily my body was fairly unscathed. Hearing the stories laid out like a whirlwind of thoughts and memories, delving and jumping from perspectives with one fluid motion — felt exactly like living with a TBI. At one point I was moved to tears hearing the exact same words on stage as I have thought in my own head, as I have cried about to friends and family. The emotions were raw but strategic. The storytelling was beautiful and bursting with life as I could really see and feel each individual character Lethan brought to the stage through his skill as an actor.
Highly recommend this enrapturing show as part of your Fringe experience!
Other reviewers have said with more eloquence, but this is an entertaining, informative show about living with and healing from (or not) traumatic brain injury. I would see this performance again. Lethan is a wonderful storyteller.
