Show Description
Floundering to hold himself together as the world falls apart, a four-time Minnesota Fringe Festival audience pick encore winner delivers a new hour of stand-up comedy about managing anxiety, depression, ADHD, and self-care in the age of crazy.
Ben San Del is a past winner of Acme Comedy Co.’s Funniest Person in the Twin Cities contest. He has opened for Tig Notaro, Maria Bamford, Emo Phillips, and Ali Wong, among dozens of other national headliners. His one-person show “Spec” won “Best Storytelling Performance” by audience vote at the 2017 Victoria, Canada, Fringe Festival, and he’s a four-time winner of the audience pick for encore performance at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, where he has produced and directed three plays and three stand-up comedy performances. He currently teaches “Stand-up Comedy for Beginners” for Minneapolis Community Education. This will be his first time performing at the KC Fringe.
Oh, also, Ben’s very sorry it took him so long to respond to your email. He foolishly allowed himself to get distracted by the impending collapse of civilization.

I don’t often find standup that makes me laugh and cry all in the span of 50 minutes, but Ben’s honest reflections and relatable details provided a really valuable experience for me this evening. One of the most impactful messages I received was that of staying in the present so we can see the art and even beauty somewhere in this f’d up world we’re enduring. Reminders like these are important for a depressed and anxious artist like myself and I’m sure many others who would enjoy this performance as well.

Perfect blend of neurosis and comedy. Great show!
Tim Mooney –
Ben San Del is maybe the most peaceful, lovable stand-up you’ve ever seen, freely exposing his various quirks and inexplicable avoidance patterns while revealing much more about those things that obsess and confine us all. I think my average laughter burst came around every 30 seconds or so… but they were generally those sneaky, “I didn’t realize that I’m the only one who thought of human interaction that way…” laughs… because I’ve been so busy locking it away as a well-kept secret.
STU LEWIS –
Too many comics rely on cheap laughs. Ben, on the other hand, chose to reveal a lot about himself with his gentle humor. He immediately connected with his audience and he came across as someone you would like to call a friend.

Ben crafts viciously poignant and self-aware observations about how difficult it can be to slalom around the dumpster fires, but he brings joy in finding and celebrating the little things we all find worth fighting for. He guides us through modern anxiety with patience, grace, and laughter. I would even go to the Mall of America (yeesh) to see him perform. Highly recommended!
