Show Description
Let Risqué Revelry take you on a journey spanning hundreds of years of history starting in the mid-1600s. Discover the humble origins of the bawdy and boisterous art form that is burlesque. From commedia del’Arte to Classical, from Raqs Sharqi to Neo you will be entranced by our performers each making their own mark on each era while highlighting the many diverse voices that contributed to this art form that has recently entered its Renaissance!
Our lovely Bibliobard will take you on the journey from 1600s Italy, through the 1800s Victorian boom. Then you’ll traverse with our vaudevillian Master of the Mic all the way to the buxom golden era complete with belly dance and finishing out with the modern neo movement.
Featuring the Risquette troupe of the twice nominated Best Burlesque Troupe of Kansas City – Risqué Revelry. Knotty Orchid will hold your hearts hostage as the Harlequinn of Commedia del’Arte. Lillie LaLune will give you Victorian elegance from the 1800s. Tiana Charming will shake and shimmy her garters down as we enter the tempting 20s. Eva Amora will give you Tangolele fervor as she brings us into the 40s.
Kimberly will bring us through the 50s for the Golden Era as we explore the entanglement of Belly Dance and Burlesque. That leaves our tantalizing Naja VeNim rounding us out for the modern era to juxtapose our journey!

This is my first year producing or performing in KC Fringe, and I am very excited to bring this art form and do something more experimental than our usual show.
Stefanie –
I enjoyed this whirlwind telling of how burlesque has evolved through the ages. From suggestive and coquettish to naughty shimmies, this show was so lovely!
Kelsey Coon –
I enjoyed the little saunter through history! Gorgeous costumes, and lots of really different flavors of performance!
Wendy S –
I found the show confusing. The initial explanation was given in a different language and then followed by an act that was confusing to me. I didn’t understand what was happening. Once I understood that it was essentially a history of burlesque show, I was more engaged. Kudos to the performers. I’m sure it takes a lot of courage to perform burlesque, especially in such an intimate space and they did a great job.

WOW.
If you know nothing about the history of burlesque this show will take you on a trip through time studded with rhinestones, curves, feathers and gasps as you see the art through the eras. If you’re lucky enough to be familiar with burlesque than what you’ll witness is a heartfelt love letter to the performers who came before, and a beautiful expression of the autonomy performers have reclaimed both on and off the stage.
Regardless of their familiarity, even the most shy audience members were transformed into enthusiasts by the charm of the performers, cheers and applause made irresistible by the rapid costumes changes, excellent musical choices, and of course, engrossing and alluring demonstration of the long history of burlesque.

This show is so much fun! I think it will equally appeal to people familiar with burlesque or brand new to the art form. The structure it was given of different styles through the ages was really engaging. Equal parts educational, funny, and sexy!
Adriana Randall –
The History of Burlesque… how fantastic! It was a costume parade of sexy, fun education. What a lovely homage to those who danced before them and how their influences are incorporated now! Bravissima!
Kat –
What a fun show! It’s entertaining from start to finish because it’s fast paced but staged in such a way that you don’t realize any time has passed until the end procession of performers has begun. You can tell just how much work has gone into this show from the choreography, the costumes, and the script!

Vilma Noir –
This show is an incredible representation of burlesque through the ages and showcases so much different styles of talent that was dazzling to watch! This is a show you do not want to miss!!!!
Imogen –
I enjoyed all the performances. The outfits and performance styles were distinct and interesting.
I did wish that there was more of the history and explanation in the show itself – it felt like there was plenty of time to do that. It was more of a “history of burlesque” THEMED burlesque show than a show about the history of burlesque. Not necessarily a bad thing but just didn’t match what I was expecting based on the description

This deep dive into burlesque history was seductive, sexy, and full of personality. The dancers were confident and classy. You could tell they put the performers put hearts into it.
If you didn’t know that the show eas about the history of burlesque the tone could feel a little slow at first, but once you realize it is telling a history story it clicks. The Italian reading at the beginning was a cool touch. I loved it, but most people didn’t understand it. If there is a way to add a translation or some context it would help people more. Suggestion….Kitten could hold a sign 🙂
Overall, it was a wonderfully produced show containing a lot of thought and heart poured into it. If you love burlesque, or are looking for a bold and beautiful show to see, this one is worth your time!
