As a Catholic altar boy also attending Lutheran school, Jesse tried desperately to believe in Christianity—which was hard since it didn't really make any damn sense to him.
As an adult, Jesse has revisited the Bible through scholarship, offering a new lens for these old ass texts to show the literature, history, humanity, and—honestly—dopeness that lies within.
Jesse makes his KC Fringe Fest debut in Christianity Uncensored—an irreverent yet affable *original* one-man show about Hell and shit.
Jesse’s show makes leaving Christianity both scholarly and relatable. I just got a masters degree in a similar subject and still learned SO much. Come laugh, reflect, and learn in this epic show 🙂
Excellent blend of comedy, scholarly knowledge, and thoughtful introspection. I actually would have welcomed a few more swear words and song excerpts to break up the historic facts and nuanced look at how this text came to be.
Jesse does a great job of posing questions about the bible and providing answers from differing religious denominations. The history lessons are thought-provoking. People spend their careers studying this topic and we got a little tidbit of it with this show. I’d love to hear more!
This was sweet, pithy, and scholarly all at once. Two Unitarians took their 18 year old Jesuit educated grandson at his request. He nodded affirmatively and laughed periodically! We liked it too… but could have enjoyed it more without the interjected “fucks” in almost every sentence. Great topic delivered well without the expletives…
What an amazing blend of comedy and intellect! Religious or not—this show will keep you entertained!
